Ashley Finnegan begins her first season as the assistant women’s basketball coach at Hartwick in the Fall of 2018. Finnegan spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach at her alma mater, Westfield State University.
During her tenure with the Owls, Finnegan helped the team to a pair of 19-win seasons that each included MASCAC championships and appearances in the NCAA Div. III Tournament. In both seasons, Westfield State led the nation in steals, steals per game, and turnover margin, and it led the country in scoring in 2017-18.
While at Westfield, Finnegan assisted the head coach with daily practice plans and shoot-around practices, and she worked with players on fundamental skill development. In addition, she was fully involved with recruiting, coordinated film exchange, and creating scouting reports.
Finnegan began her coaching career as an assistant at Lasell College, where she spent two seasons from 2011-13. She returned to the Lasers for a second stint from 2014-16.
In her playing days, Finnegan began her career at Division II Mercy College, where she played for two seasons, before transferring to Westfield State for her junior and senior campaigns. Finnegan would finish her career with over 1,200 points and 800 rebounds. She ranked eighth in the nation in double-doubles as a senior.
Finnegan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Westfield State in May 2011. A Master of Public Administration followed in June 2018.
