Jocelyn Ortega begins her first season as Hartwick College’s Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach for the 2017-18 academic year. A former collegiate standout at Southern Vermont College, Ortega arrives at Hartwick after spending the last several years coaching in California at the club and high school level.
Ortega has served as the assistant varsity and head junior varsity soccer coach at Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, CA. She was also the head coach of the girls’ field hockey team at Eastlake. In 2015, Ortega was named Eastlake High School Assistant Coach of the Year. She has also coached with Rebels Soccer Club, piloting the Girls’ 2002 Elite Team, and the Chula Vista Rangers.
As a student-athlete, Ortega began her playing career at San Diego Mesa College, where she played two seasons for the Olympians. She transferred to Southern Vermont in 2012 and helped the Mountaineers to back-to-back New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) playoff appearances.
Ortega earned NECC Second Team honors and was a conference Player of the Week in her junior season. She was also named to the NECC All-Academic Team. Ortega captained the Mountaineers in her senior season. She secured NECC First Team accolades and was named team Most Valuable Player.
Ortega graduated Cum Laude from SVC with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in May 2014. She achieved a Master of Science in Athletic Administration from Ohio University in January 2017.
