Ryan Brooks-Newton begins his first season with the Hawks as a volunteer assistant coach.
Brooks-Newton has served as the head women’s soccer coach and goalkeeper coach of the men’s program at Herkimer County Community College for the last five seasons.
Brooks-Newton has accumulated three NJCAA Division III National Championships with the men’s program. His first was as a goalkeeper in 2005, when he only allowed six goals the entire season. The other two were in 2008 and 2011 as goalkeeper coach.
As a goalkeeper for the Generals in two seasons (2005-2007), Brooks-Newton compiled 32 shutouts and a 41-3-1 record. He earned 1st Team NSCAA, 1st Team Mountain Valley Conference, 2nd Team All-Region, and three Player of the Week nominations.
After Herkimer, Brooks-Newton went to American International College in Springfield, MA where he was a goalkeeper for the Yellow Jackets. With one year of eligibility left in 2010, Brooks-Newton also played football for the Yellow Jackets, starring as their kicker.
Brooks-Newton played professionally in 2011 when he played for the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Syracuse Knights. He also had a three-year stint with the Vermont Voltage of the Professional Development League.
In his first year as head coach of the women’s soccer program at Herkimer, Brooks-Newton led the team to their first Region III Championship in nine years. The team finished third in the nation and earned Brooks-Newton NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year. In 2015, he helped the program to another regional championship and a fourth-place finish at the national tournament. He was named Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year.
Brooks-Newton has also served as Syracuse men’s soccer’s director of game operations and Sage College goalkeeper coach. He is the Alleycat Soccer Club director of goalkeeping.
