Hawks Split With Conference Foes

ONEONTA, NY - 'Wick volleyball lost its second straight five-set match with a 3-2 setback to Utica but responded with a 3-0 blanking of Alfred in its second match on Saturday in a home tri-match at Lambros Arena. The Hawks' record now stands at 7-16 overall.

The Hawks, after dropping a five-setter to Morrisville last night, were roughed up in the opening set of their first match against the Pioneers, 25-11. The team came back to take a two sets to one lead after winning the second and third set by scores of 25-16. Utica fought back to take the fourth set 25-14 and outlasting 'Wick 16-14 to score the victory.

Lauren Mausert (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) and Cassie Dresser (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) each had 10 kills to lead Hartwick's offense. Mausert also added a team-high 17 digs. Courtney Desmond (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) added nine kills and Chelsea Jordan (Cobleskill, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) and Lauren Heiman (Dansville, NY/Wayland Cohocton) each contributed seven.

Darcy Dolge (La Grande, OR/La Grande) added a double-double with a team-high 29 assists and 10 digs. Tori Beck (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) and Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) combined for 28 digs.

The Hawks quickly recovered from the loss to the Pioneers as they rolled past Alfred in three straight sets, 25-10, 25-14, 25-21. 'Wick now has three wins this season over the Saxons.

Mausert and Desmond each registered nine kills. Dolge notched another 24 assists, and Beck reached double figures in digs with 10.

'Wick gets back to conference matches next weekend in the second E8 volleyball weekend of the season at Nazareth in Rochester, NY. The Hawks (1-3), who are currently tied for 6th, face St. John Fisher, Ithaca, the host Golden Flyers, and Utica at the event. The Hawks will need at least three wins to have a shot at one of the four conference tournament berths.
