Elmira Uses Big Second Half to Earn Victory over ’Wick Women’s Basketball

          ONEONTA, NY – Visiting Elmira College outscored Hartwick 38-11 in the second half in a 67-38 victory on Friday evening at Lambros Arena. The Soaring Eagles started the half on a 13-0 run and never looked back in their second Empire 8 win of the season. EC's record now stands at 3-14 overall and 2-7 in conference play. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 5-13 and 3-7.
          The first half was a back and forth contest which featured five tie scores and 12 lead changes. The Soaring Eagles would grab a two-point edge at the break, 29-27.
          EC, which snapped a four-game winless streak against the Hawks dating back to the 2007-08, would take over in the early stages of the second half as it netted 13 straight for a 42-27 lead. The edge would swell to 20 points with under nine minutes left to go and the visitors maintained an advantage of 20 points or more the rest of the way.
          The Hawks did not do themselves any favors in the second session shooting just 17% (4-of-23) as a team with 16 turnovers. Cassie Dresser (Ovid, NY/South Seneca) and Jalicia Connell (Westbury, NY/Hicksville) were the Hawks' high scorers with nine points each. Dresser also had the team-high in rebounds with six.
          The Soaring Eagles, who shot 44.6% (25-of-56) on the night, were paced by Erin Rupell's 14 points. Amanda Lawlor dropped in 13 including 11 in the second half, and Tesia Kaczynski tallied 12 points. Alysha Giarra scored seven points and added nine steals on the night.
          Hartwick returns to action on Sunday. The Hawks travel to Alfred to face the Saxons at 2 p.m. 'Wick and Alfred have already played twice this season with the Saxons winning 73-52 on Nov. 20th, and the Hawks earning a 57-54 win at Lambros Arena on Jan. 8th.
