Second-Half Tally Lifts Adelphi Over Men’s Soccer

ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick men's soccer fell a goal short against Adelphi University on Saturday night on Elmore Field in a non-conference match. The Panthers tallied in the 75th minute for the lone goal of the night. Hartwick falls to 2-8-1 on the year while Adelphi improves to 6-5.
The Panthers goal came from the foot of left back Mauricio Mora at the 74:48 mark of the game. Mora collected the ball 35 yards from the Hartwick goal, took a few touches, and unleashed a canon to the near post out of the reach of Hartwick keeper Lee Fenner (Altamont, NY/Clayton Bouton). It marked the first goal given up by Fenner in just under 210 minutes in the 'Wick goal this season.
The first half produced very few opportunities on the goal as both teams combined for just seven shots, with only three on goal. The second half picked up with 17 total shots. The Hawks and Panthers traded chances for the opening 25 minutes with Adelphi holding a 7-5 edge.
The Hawks' best opportunity of the second period came in the 62nd minute. Left back Owen Botting (Billingshurst, England/Heidelberg College) received the ball on the left sideline roughly 35 yards from goal and tried to catch Adelphi goalkeeper Kyle Blackmer off his line with a long distance effort. The ball looked destined for the far post but Blackmer somehow managed to get is fingertips to the shot and knock the ball over the crossbar.
Senior back Carson Pryde (Calgary, Alberta/Lord Beaverbrook) had the last solid chance for the Hawks with 30 seconds to play. Pryde's hit a hard volley on goal but Blackmer was able to keep it out with his sixth and final save of the night. Fenner would finish the evening with four stops for 'Wick.
Hartwick is off until next weekend with a home conference match against Bowling Green on Saturday. The Hawks are 1-1 and currently tied for fourth with Buffalo in the MAC tables. The Falcons are 4-4-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
