Thoroughbreds Roll Past Hawks in Women’s Basketball

            SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Skidmore cruised past Hartwick's women's basketball team on Tuesday night by a final count of 89-37. The loss drops 'Wick's season mark to 3-2. The Thoroughbreds improve to 2-2.
            The Hawks had a tough time shooting the basketball on the night, making a season-low 25% (14-for-57) of their shots as a team, including 2-of-27 shots from beyond the three-point arc. Skidmore finished the game hitting a blistering 59% (33-for-56) from the floor. The Thoroughbreds hit half of their three-point attempts making 11-of-22 shots, and held a 42-31 edge on the glass.
            In the opening half, Skidmore made 53% (16-for-30) of its shots and hit 7-of-13 from three-point range. Hartwick shot 26% (7-of-27) and missed all 10 three-point attempts. The hosts also turned 16 'Wick turnovers into 26 first-half points.
            Tracey Koch (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem) and Katrina Caulfield (Palmer, MA/Palmer) combined for 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Hawks in the half. Christina Gargiso led six Skidmore players with at least six points in the first 20 minutes with 10 points.
            Skidmore began the second half on an 18-3 run to put the game out of reach. Koch ended up as the Hawks' top scorer with eight first-half points. Caulfield, Lee Andruini (Albany, NY/Acad. Of Holy Names), and Marie Davison (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga Springs) each scored seven. Caulfield tied for a game-high with 11 rebounds.
            Gargiso led all scorers with 15 points for the Thoroughbreds. Jordynn Wartts added 12 and Jessie Kavana and Christine Kemp each scored 11. Logan Frederick and Michela Ottati notched 10 apiece.
            Hartwick is off for a week until it travels to Oneonta State next Tuesday, December 7th. The Hawks and Red Dragons tip off at Dewar Arena at 6 p.m.
