In the Hawks' first match of the night, they defeated SUNY Cobleskill 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-11). Dana Martin (Chester, NY/Burke Catholic) and Katie Ryan (Circleville, NY/Pine Bush) both had 12 kills. Hartwick led 8-2 in the first set before the Fighting Tigers rallied to tie the set at 17-all. The Hawks would slowly pull away as they came out on top 25-23.

The Hawks led 21-16 in the second set before Cobleskill narrowed the score to 22-19. A 3-2 run to end the game culminated in Martin's kill that won the set for 'Wick 25-21.

Hartwick was easily in control in the third set as it held an early 7-1 lead that quickly grew to a 12-3 advantage. The Hawks went up by as much as 20-6 and eventually took the set 25-11 to win the match.

The Hawks' toughest test of the night came against SUNY Plattsburgh where the match went to five sets but Hartwick came out with a 3-2 victory (25-20, 21-25, 29-31, 25-16, 15-13). Hannah Strom (Kenmore, WA/Inglemoor) had a double-double with 18 kills and 15 digs. Martin had 15 kills while Ryan chipped in with 13 kills. Brianna Eckert (Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia) had 13 digs while Linter contributed a season-high 43 assists.

Hartwick started the match with a 9-3 lead that went to 11-7 and then an 8-0 burst put the Hawks ahead 19-7. The Cardinals would go on a run of their own and shrink the 'Wick lead to 19-12. The Hawks would hold the lead throughout the rest of the set and come up on top 25-20.

The second set was a much different story as Plattsburgh would get out to a 12-5 lead. The Cardinal lead would grow to 17-8 before the Hawks scored five straight times to narrow the score to 17-13. Hartwick would not allow Plattsburgh to run away with the game as the Cardinals held a 23-20 lead late in the frame. It would be as close as Hartwick would get as Plattsburgh came away with the 25-21 win.

The third set was a back and forth affair as neither team could sustain a big run to pull away. After the Cardinals went ahead 22-21, the score would be tied eight times as both teams fought to stay alive. After the Hawks forced a 29-29 tie, the Cardinals would score the final two points of the game to claim the epic set 31-29.

Despite trailing 2-1 in the match, Hartwick was unfazed. The Hawks got out to an early 5-2 lead in the fourth frame that grew to 8-4.  Four straight Cardinal points would knot the game at 8-all. Hartwick stopped the Plattsburgh rally with two straight points to go up 10-8. The Hawks would lead by as much as 21-13 and eventually come away with a 25-16 win.

In the fifth and final set, the Cardinals would lead early 10-8. Five straight 'Wick points with crucial kills by Martin and Ryan gave the Hawks a 13-10 advantage. Plattsburgh would make it close at 14-13 but a blocking error by the Cardinals gave the Hawks the final points they needed to win 15-13.

The Hawks continue play with two matches tomorrow. Hartwick will face Keuka at 1 p.m. followed by Lebanon Valley at 3 p.m.
