CLINTON, NY- The Hartwick men's swimming and diving team scored three wins and the women's team won two of its three meets as both teams competed at the Hamilton Quad Meet on Saturday afternoon.
The men defeated Hamilton 181-56, Ithaca 138-99, and SUNY Geneseo 166-65 to move to 9-0 on the season. The women won 162-87 over Hamilton, 118-116 over Geneseo, and suffered their first defeat of the season with a 146-97 loss at the hands of Ithaca.
For the men,
Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley),
Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin), and
Miles Blaney (New York, NY/NYC Lab School) all won two events each to lead 'Wick. Kleso clocked in at just under ten minutes in the 1000 free with a time of 9:59.39. Teammate
Luke Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Academy) finished in second place in 10:02.75. Kleso also won the 200 back in 2:12.29. Willcox was a winner in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.89 and the 200 fly in 1:56.99. Blaney had a winning time of 1:44.89 in the 200 free and posted a time of 4:50.89 in the 500 free.
The other winner on the day was
Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell Valley) in the 100 free. Ranson came in first with a season-best time of 47.69.
The 400 medley relay team of Cupit, Kleso, Willcox, and
Lydon Schultz (Mount Pleasant, SC/Bishop England) swam a season-best time of 3:31.99 to claim victory. In the 400 free relay, the squad of Schultz, Blaney,
Cory Perez (Miami, FL/John A. Ferguson), and Ranson also had a season-best time of 3:11.03 to win.
On the women's side,
Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA/Southwestern Academy) led the way with two victories. Mathias swam a time of 10:59.49 in the 1000 free. She also won the 500 free in a time of 5:22.70.
Jade Woodend (Visalia, CA/Mayfield) came in first in the 50 free with a blazing time of 25.12.
The 400 free relay team of
Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY/John A. Coleman),
Sarah Uminski (Falmouth, ME/Falmouth),
Erin Holladay (Everett, WA/Henry M. Jackson) and
Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL/Glenhard North) were victorious with a time of 3:43.62.
Lindsay Bowker (Bothell, WA/Inglemoor) was just two points from winning the one meter as she came in second with a score of 228. Ithaca's Korie Fackler was the winner with 229.85 points.
Both teams will return to action in two weeks when they compete at the Ithaca College Invitational.
