ONEONTA, NY- The Hartwick men's and women's swimming and diving teams kept their records perfect at 4-0 as both teams defeated Empire 8 rival Nazareth on Saturday afternoon at Moyer Pool. The men won 194-91 and the women won 190-106.
The 'Wick men won 14 of the 16 events on the day.
Cody Cupit (Nacogdoches, TX),
Brad Ranson (Pennington, NJ),
Luke Grunewald (New Windsor, NY), and
Chris Willcox (Dresher, PA) all won two events each to lead Hartwick.
Cupit took first in the 100 back (54.26) and the 200 back (2:02.28). Ranson won the 100 free (48.38) and the 200 free (1:46.07). Grunewald touched the wall first in the 500 free (4:52.67) and 1000 free (10:04.60). Willcox was victorious in the 200 fly (1:59.15) and 200 IM (2:04.58).
Other winners on the men's side included
Kenny Kleso (Milford, PA) in the 100 breast (1:01.40),
Jeremy Torres (Poulsbo, WA) in the 200 breast (2:16.70),
Miles Blaney (New York, NY) in the 100 fly (54.37), and
Lydon Schultz (Mt. Pleasant, SC) in the 50 free (22.24).
The 400 medley relay team of Cupit, Kleso, Blaney and Ranson swam a winning time of 3:38.73. The 400 free relay squad of
Brendan Day (Westfield, MA), Ranson, Grunewald, and Schultz came out ahead in a time of 3:17.93.
The Hartwick women won 12 events. Leading the way was
Gwen Mathias (Sunland, CA) who picked up three wins on the day. Mathias won the 1000 free (11:00.33), the 500 free (5:25.83), and the 200 back (2:14.05).
Jade Woodend (Visalia, CA) scored two wins. Woodend took first in the 100 fly (1:01.44) and the 50 free (24.89).
Also getting victories for the Hawks were
Kaitlyn Campbell (Hanover Park, IL) in the 200 free (2:02.30),
Mallory Weber (Naperville, IL) in the 200 fly (2:18.59) and
Imma Rutigliano (Tillson, NY) in the 200 IM (2:17.07).
The 400 medley relay quartet of Rutigliano,
Clare Nelson (South Hadley, MA), Woodend, and Campbell was first in a time of 4:09.34. The 400 free relay team of Campbell,
Sarah Uminski (Falmouth, ME), Mathias, and Woodend came out on top with a time of 3:46.80.
Lindsay Bowker (Bothell, WA) won the one and three meter diving competitions with scores of 197.15 and 217.95, respectively.
Both teams return to Moyer Pool for a meet with cross-city rival Oneonta State next Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
