ONEONTA, NY
– A pair of 2012 NCAA Tournament teams are on the horizon for Hartwick men's soccer this weekend as the Hawks travel to Dallas, TX for the Southern Methodist University Tournament. Hartwick will take on the host Mustangs at 8:30 p.m. (EST) on Friday night followed by the University of Tulsa Sunday at 1 p.m. The Golden Hurricane is ranked thirteenth in the nation in the latest NSCAA poll.

"We are delighted to be a part of a tournament of this caliber," said Hartwick head coach John Scott prior to the Hawks' departure. "These games should require very little motivation from the coaching staff and I can't wait to see how we fare."

Hartwick (0-2-2) is returning to the pitch after a very strong showing in its Mayor's Cup finale against a Cornell team which was ranked in the preseason top 20. The Hawks held a 1-0 lead deep into the contest before the Big Red tied the score very late in regulation and later won it in overtime.

Senior captain Will Broomfield (Brighton, England/Cloud Community College) and sophomore David Styles (Bognor Regis, England/St. Phillip Howard) have accounted for much of the Hartwick offense over the team's first four games. Broomfield has two goals while Styles has a goal and two assists. Jamie O'Grady (Falkirk, Scotland/Falkirk) notched an assist against Cornell.

SMU is 0-4 on the year. The record is deceiving as the Mustangs have lost to former #1 Indiana, current #7 Notre Dame, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, which is receiving votes in the current national poll, and Ohio State.

"SMU may be 0-4 but just look at who they have played with all of the games coming on the road," added Scott. "They will be very determined against us at their home event."

All four losses for the Mustangs were by a single goal. They fell to Indiana and Notre Dame by 2-1 margins at the IU Credit Union Classic and in 1-0 decisions to both SIUE and Ohio State at the Tulsa Hurricane Classic last weekend.

Tulsa will enter the tournament as the favorite with a 3-1 overall mark and the national 13th ranking. The Hurricane, which lost in the round of 16 in last season's NCAA Tournament, dropped its season opener 2-0 to Creighton, the nation's top ranked team currently. The team responded with a 3-0 blanking of Drake then won its own tournament last weekend with wins over Ohio State (4-1) and SIUE (2-0).

Forward Christian Mata and goalkeeper Cory Mumma are the reigning Conference USA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. Mata totaled two goals and two assists at the Hurricane Classic. Mumma had one shutout and surrendered only one goal.

The University of Missouri-Kansas City is also vying with the Hawks for the title down in Dallas. The Roos enter the competition 0-2-1 with a tie to Wisconsin and losses to Memphis and Central Arkansas.

"We're lucky to have this trip to look forward to," Scott stated. "Our strength of schedule this year is excellent and we need to revel in every opportunity. We look forward to having a small army of Hartwick supporters this weekend led by our Dallas alums Rudy Pena and Luis Gonzales."
