BURLINGTON, VT – A Salvatore Borea goal in the 64th minute accounted for all the goal scoring on Saturday as the Vermont Catamounts defeated Hartwick's men's soccer team 1-0 at Virtue Field. The Hawks fall to 1-5-2 with the setback. UVM improves to 6-1-2.

The Hawks held a commanding 8-1 edge in shots in the opening half of play. Shots from Tim Crawford (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Will Broomfield (Brighton, England/Cloud Community College) forced saves from Catamount keeper Conor Leland in side of 12 minutes. Crawford also had a shot on target just before halftime.

"The first half went well for us," said Hartwick head coach John Scott. "The boys were following the game plan and we held the upper hand. If anything we just needed a little bit more from an end product to really test the goalkeeper."

The Catamounts turned the tables in the second half with a 9-3 advantage in shots. They got on the scoreboard at the 63:52 mark of the match. The hosts won a throw-in deep in the Hartwick end of the field. Luke Salmon fired the ball into the box and Borea was there at the six-yard box to flick a header past Hartwick goalkeeper Mateo Munarriz (Manizales, Colombia/Colegio Granadino) for a 1-0 lead.

The Hawks would only put two more shots on frame the rest of the match. In the 84th minute, Jaime O'Grady (Falkirk, Scotland/Falkirk) drove a low, left-footed shot in on goal from the top of the UVM 18, but Leland was able to make the save. Rio Dhat (Auckland, New Zealand/Epping Boys) had one more shot on goal with just over two minutes remaining but Leland would come away with his sixth and final save of the day.

"We lost to a more committed team," added Scott. "They raised their game in the second half to shut us down and disrupt the rhythm we established in the first half. The goal affected our way in the game and we couldn't find our way back. I'm disappointed we couldn't rise above it."

Hartwick closed the match with advantages in shots (11-10) and corners (5-4). Munarriz made one save in the 'Wick goal.

The Hawks return to Elmore for a Tuesday, October 1 match against UMass-Lowell. The Hawks and Riverhawks kick off at 7 p.m.
