HOUGHTON, NY – Hartwick led for 60 minutes but a late Houghton goal with 1:38 remaining in regulation produced a 1-1 double-overtime tie on Saturday in Empire 8 women's soccer.
With the result, the Hawks overall record stands at 8-2-1 and 2-1-1 in the Empire 8. The Highlanders are now 4-5-1 and 0-2-1.
Allie Ricci (Millstone, NJ/Saint John Vianney) gave Hartwick the lead in the 29
th minute. Following a lofted ball into the Highlander box, Ricci nodded the ball over Houghton keeper Shawna Sprout for a 1-0 Hartwick edge. It marked Ricci's first goal of the season.
The two teams were even on shots through 45 minutes. The Hawks earned four corners to the Highlanders' two.
Hartwick held off its hosts for over 43 minutes in the second half, but Esther Webb played a long ball over the top of the 'Wick defense and Bailey Shattell one-timed a left-footed shot to the far post for the equalizer.
Houghton out-shot the Hawks 2-0 in the first extra period with
Megan McGillycuddy (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) making one save. Hartwick had the only shot of the second overtime on a
Casey Boucher (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge) effort but her effort was saved by Sprout.
McGillycuddy would make a total of three saves in the match with Sprout making one.
'Wick is back in action tomorrow in another Empire 8 contests at Alfred University. The Hawks have four games left on their conference slate.
