HOUGHTON, NY – Hartwick rolled to a three-set win over Alfred and then fell by a 3-0 count to host Houghton College at an Empire 8 tri-match Saturday. The Hawks got their ninth victory of the season with a 25-12, 25-12, 25-13 win over the Saxons. The Highlanders won by scores of 21-25, 23-25, 17-25.
In their first match, the Hawks hit a season-best .293 as a team. Three players -
Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith),
Kayla Baril (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk), and
Rosa Maun (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) – hit over .360.
Vonasek hit .467 with eight kills on 15 attacks. Baril registered a percentage of .375 and recorded a match-high 15 kills. Maun's five kills on 11 attacks gave her a hit percentage of .364.
Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) picked up a match-high 11 digs to go along with eight kills.
Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH/Berkshire) added nine and
Quincy Kinzel (Scotia, NY/Guilderland) accumulated 32 assists.
Baril would once again hit double figures in kills against Houghton. She tied for a match-high with 11 and added eight digs. Vonasek would chip in nine kills.
Zeitler led the way defensively with 17 digs. Armstrong had nine digs and seven kills with Kinzel finishing the match with 29 assists and eight digs.
Hartwick's Empire 8 record now stands at 2-3 with three matches remaining against Stevens, Ithaca, and St. John Fisher. The Hawks first host a non-conference match against Sage on Thursday, October 15 beginning at 7 p.m.
