SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY – Hartwick fell in four sets to a tough SUNY New Paltz (20-9) team on Friday night at the Skidmore College Invitational in Saratoga Springs. Scores were 21-25, 11-25, 25-22, 10-25.
Kayla Baril (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) led the Hawks offensively with nine kills. She added seven digs.
Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) contributed six kills and eight digs for the Hawks.
In the early going of the first set, the Hawks jumped in front 5-0. They twice led by as many as six points before New Paltz got back into the match. Later, 'Wick would hold a 20-18 advantage but six straight points would put New Paltz up 24-20. Two points later, they closed out the set, 25-21.
In the second set, Hartwick trailed by just two, 6-4, but New Paltz scored nine unanswered points to surge ahead in a 25-11 win.
'Wick led the whole way in the third to cut the deficit in half. Armstrong would finish the set off with a kill for a 25-22 win.
New Paltz closed out 'Wick in the fourth. Hartwick was behind by just two points, 9-7, only to have New Paltz secure 16 of the final 19 points for the victory.
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) had 12 assists and six digs for 'Wick.
Quincy Kinzel (Scotia, NY/Guilderland) added 10 assists.
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) recorded a match-high 14 digs.
'Wick (9-21) concludes its season tomorrow at the tournament. The Hawks play Potsdam and Geneseo.
