MORRISVILLE, NY – Hartwick won for the fourth time in six matches on Tuesday night with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-21) victory over host Morrisville State. The win improves the Hawks' season mark to 8-15.
The Hawks led from start to finish in the first set, opening up a pair of eight-point margins. A
Kayla Baril (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk) closed out the set with a kill for a 25-18 win.
Hartwick grabbed the early lead again in the second set and never relinquished it. The Hawks led 20-10 at one point before
Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) finished off the set, 25-18, with a kill.
The third set was a tighter affair with the lead changing hands on a few occasions. The Hawks led by a count of 22-18 before two straight Mustang points trimmed the lead to two. Kills from
Taylor Vonasek (Willington, CT/E.O. Smith), Armstrong, and Baril, however, ended the set and the match for 'Wick.
Baril would register a match-high 14 kills for Hartwick. She also had seven digs. Armstrong finished with eight kills and 10 digs, and Vonasek and
Rachel Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway) would each contribute six kills.
Quincy Kinzel (Scotia, NY/Guilderland) recorded 33 assists in the match to go along with nine digs.
Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH/Berkshire) added a match-high 19 digs.
The Hawks, who are 1-2 in Empire 8 play, oppose a pair of league foes this Saturday at Houghton. 'Wick plays the host Highlanders and Alfred University.
