KEUKA PARK, NY – The hosts scored first, but the Hartwick Hawks got the last two to secure a 2-1 victory at Keuka College on Wednesday night. With the win, the Hawks begin the season 6-0 for the second time in program history and first since 1988.
'Wick, once again, out-shot its opponent by a wide margin, 19-2. The Hawks, however, fell behind at the 16:17 mark as Nicole Browe hit a shot to the far post out of the reach of Hartwick goalkeeper
Megan McGillycuddy (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) for a 1-0 Wolfpack lead. It snapped the Hawks' scoreless streak at 466:17.
The Hawks answered after seven and a half minutes. A cross from
Cami Cleaveland (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) from the left side was met by
Sierra Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus) who hit her shot off the post.
Allie Ricci (Millstone, NJ/Saint John Vianney) the collected the rebound and got the ball to Rachel Weir (New Milford, CT/New Milford) who put it away for her second tally of the season.
The game would remain tied at one for nearly fifty minutes. Finally with seventeen and a half minutes remaining,
Allyson Daniels (Pembroke, NH/Academy) received a pass from Ricci and scored past Kenna Kosinski to push the Hawks in front. It marked Daniels' third goal of the season and Ricci's team-best sixth assist on the year.
Keuka barely threatened the rest of the way as the Hawks didn't allow another shot. McGillycuddy was only troubled for one save in the Hawks' goal for the night. Kosinski ended the contest with 10 saves.
Hartwick next plays on Saturday, September 19 at Union College. Kickoff is 2 p.m.
