ONEONTA, NY – The Hartwick women's soccer team got back to its winning ways in a 1-0 defeat over conference foe, Houghton College on Saturday afternoon on Elmore Field.
Sophomore midfielder/forward
Rachel Weir (New Milford, CT/New Milford) scored the only goal of the match in the first half. After a deflection, the sophomore blasted her shot from the right side into the top left of the net just 4:39 into the contest. It would be all the Hawks would need as they earned the 1-0 victory and elevated their season record to 5-3-1 and 1-1-1 in the Empire 8. The Highlanders drop to 5-1-3 (1-1 E8).
The Hawks out-shot their opponent, 15-4. Weir,
Casey Boucher (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge),
Sierra Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus) and
Kiley Richardson (Flanders, NJ/Roxbury) each registered a pair of shots for the victors.
Megan McGillycuddy (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) was the only Hartwick representative in net while Houghton featured two keepers, Rachael Fortney and Sadie Dunnett. McGillycuddy rejected two shots in the clean sheet. Fortney registered five saves in the loss.
