ONEONTA, NY – Visiting Ursinus College scored inside the first four minutes and led the rest of the way in a 3-1 victory over Hartwick's women's soccer team Saturday in the second game of the Mayor's Cup. The loss drops the Hawks to 2-1 on the season. The Bears improve to 1-2.
Mackenzie Groff opened the scoring with an unassisted tally after dribbling across the box and firing past Hartwick keeper
Megan McGillycuddy (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) at the 3:18 mark. The Hawks would double up the Bears in shots for the half, 10-5, but the visitors entered halftime with the one-goal lead.
Less than five minutes into the second half it was 2-nil as Phoebe Shoap scored on a header off a corner from Stephanie Donahue to make it a two-goal game.
The Hawks got on the scoreboard at nearly 62 minutes when
Hanna Konash (Stowe, MA/Nashoba Regional) put the ball into the far corner after a centering pass from teammate
Allie Ricci (Millstone, NJ/Saint John Vianney).
The match stayed deadlocked for only eight minutes as Ursinus' Jacqueline Smiler found Erin Farrell in the box and she calmly finished past
Celeste Trevellini (Bayside, NY/World Journalism) for the game's final tally.
Hartwick finished the contest with a 20-15 edge in shots.
Casey Boucher (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge) had four shots with
Rachel Weir (New Milford, CT/New Milford) adding three.
McGillycuddy made two saves in goal in the opening half. Trevellini stopped three in the second. Bears' keeper Courtney Sullivan made eight saves.
SUNY Oneonta scored five times to defeat St. Joseph's LI in the Cup opener, 5-0.
