Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Hawks Edged by #8 Stevens 1-0

ONEONTA, NY - The Hartwick women's soccer team kicked off its conference slate on Saturday and nearly kept the eighth ranked team in the country to a 0-0 draw. Instead, Zisi Komar scored in the 73rd minute for what would prove to be the game's only goal in a 1-0 Ducks' win. Hartwick falls to 4-2 with Stevens improving to 6-0 overall.

Komar blasted a shot beyond senior goalie Megan McGillycuddy's (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) reach off a Raba Nassif assist. Nassif gathered the ball after a corner and got it to Komar who was positioned a few paces just outside of the box. Her shot sailed home for what would prove to be the winner.

The Hawks created chances in the opening half with five shots. Two came from Casey Boucher (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge) with one each coming from Allie Ricci (Millstone, NJ/Saint John Vianney), Rachel Weir (New Milford, CT/New Milford), and Hanna Konash (Stow, MA/Nashoba Regional).

Stevens would lead the opening half in shots 11-5 and they took four corners to the Hawks' two.

The Ducks out-shot the Hawks 13-1 in the second half of play before finally breaking through at the 72:20 mark of the match. Komar and Nassif accounted for half of Stevens' shots. Each player had six apiece.

McGillycuddy would finish the game with five saves playing all 90 minutes. Lindsey Mahnken got the victory in goal for Stevens. She did not register a save on the day.

Hartwick hosts Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in its next match on Wednesday, September 21. The Hawks and Engineers play on Elmore beginning at 7 p.m.
