CANTON, NY - On Friday, the Hartwick women's volleyball team traveled to Canton, NY to commence competition at the Canton Classic. The two-day tournament headlined three matchups for the Hawks, two of which concluded today. On day one, the Hawks were edged in both matches to non-conference opponents, the Canton Kangaroos, 3-1, and the St. Lawrence Saints, 3-0. 'Wick fell 22-25, 14-25, 25-19 and 18-25 to the Roos, while the Saints benefitted from 25-19, 25-17, 25-14 set scores. Canton and St. Lawrence move to 9-9 and 7-10 on the year, respectively. Hartwick falls to 5-11 overall.
Versus the Roos,
Hannah Armstrong (Lansing, NY/Lansing) posted a double-double consisting of 15 kills on .208 hitting to lead her team while adding 14 digs. Libero
Alyssa Zeitler (Chardon, OH/Berkshire) and defensive specialist
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) each registered 16 digs over their first opponent.
Armstrong landed eight more kills in the second match. With 11 digs, Werner was one short of notching the match-high against St. Lawrence.
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) tallied 28 helpers against Canton. Against St. Lawrence, she dished out 11.
Rosa Maun (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) and
Rachel Jones (West Charlton, NY/Galway) piloted the blocking unit with three rejections each in the first match. For the second contest, only Maun and
Nicole Wyse (Manchester, CT/South Windsor) recorded blocks.
The action on the second and final day of the Classic begins at noon for the Hawks. Hartwick will face the Keuka Wolves.
