Hartwick Falls to Nationally Ranked Stevens on Senior Day

ONEONTA, NY – Both Hartwick men's and women's swimming and diving teams took to Moyer Pool for their final home meet as they hosted nationally ranked Stevens on Saturday. The men fell to the no. 16 Ducks 154-126 while the 'Wick women lost 144-118 to their no. 18 opponent.  The men are now 9-6 overall while the women stand at 7-8 on the season.
 
The 'Wick men were led by Aron Zhang (Douglaston, NY/Brooklyn Technical), Yury Chernyak (Sidney, NY/Sidney) and Kyle Washington (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall Central) who each picked up a pair of wins while on the women's side, Maddy Hayes (Eagan, MN/Eagan), Taylor Diepold (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury), Gabbie Kiefl (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie), and Ally Agate (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) all finished with one apiece.
 
Hayes received the first top finish for the 'Wick women in the 200-yard freestyle with the time of 2:03.49.
 
Kiefl graced the top in the 100-yard breaststroke swimming in 1:11.54.
 
For the 50-yard freestyle, Diepold swam in 25.97 for her victory.
 
Agate's time of 2:17.94 was best in the 200-yard backstroke.
 
On the men's side, Zhang swam to first in the 200-yard freestyle and 200-yard IM with the respective times of 1:47.02 and 1:58.57.
 
Chernyak picked up the quickest times in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke finishing in 1:00.61 and 2:12.15, respectively.
 
Washington earned the score of 159.35 in 1-meter diving and 168.40 in 3-meter diving.
 
Brendan Quinn (Raleigh, NC/Heritage) won the 200-yard butterfly with the time of 1:59.27 while Joe Mulvehill (Penfield, NY/Penfield) earned a time of 21.82 in the 50-yard freestyle.
 
Before competition, the Hawks recognized their senior classes and parents. The women's graduating class is made up of Agate, Rachel Bellis (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy), Kelsey Elliott (Cortland, NY/Homer), Bree Jefferds (Watertown, NY/Watertown) and Kiefl, while the men's senior class consists of Christian Burns (East Pembroke, NY/Pembroke), Brian Edmister III (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley Central), Zane Grunewald (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free Academy), Mulvehill and Quinn.
 
The UNYSCSA / Empire 8 Championships is next for the Hawks beginning Wednesday, February 15 at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. inside the campus of Ithaca.
