SCRANTON, PA – Hartwick volleyball lost to the University of Scranton and Manhattanville College on Friday at the John Long Center in Scranton, PA. The losses drop the Hawks' overall record to 10-12.
The Hawks fell to the host Royals 25-19, 25-19, 25-16 in their opening match.
Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) had seven kills to lead all Hawks.
Kaitlyn Ludder (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) and
Erin Russell (Wantagh, NY/Seaford) each had four. Russell would also contribute 16 assists and seven digs.
Katie Boak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) registered the team-high in digs with 15.
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) had 11 digs and
Rachel Griffing (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) had seven apiece.
The Royals, who improved to 25-2 on the season, were led by Kristin Kirwin's 11 kills. Shannon Savitsky added seven and Kristen Sweeney and Victoria Capogna each had six. Kindler Norman dished out 30 assists and Regina Schetroma recorded 16 digs.
In 'Wick second match against the Valiants, the two teams split the opening two sets. Manhattanville took the first set, 25-21. Hartwick won the second by a final count of 25-18.
The Hawks held a big league in the third set. After a kill from Ludder and a Boak service ace, they led by five, 23-18. The Valiants, however, stormed back scoring the next seven points to grab a 2-1 advantage.
In a closer fourth set, the Hawks registered four straight points to grab a 21-17 edge. Later, Hartwick was just a point away from sending the match to a deciding fifth set at 24-22, but three consecutive points from Manhattanville put the match away.
Sorriento led all players with 20 kills and 25 digs. Ludder would finish with a double-double of 15 kills and 10 digs. Reidy had 24 digs with Boak adding 20. Russell accumulated 46 assists and 18 digs.
Kerry Mackay led the Valiants 14 kills, including the match-winner. Meagan Dattoma recorded 10 kills. Monica Lopez had a match-high 31 digs.
Hartwick is at Morrisville State on Wednesday, October 18. The match begins at 7 p.m.
