Hawks Complete Weekend Sweep With 1-0 Win at Alfred

ALFRED, NY – Hartwick took the lead in the 14th minute and held onto it for the next 76 minutes on Sunday in a 1-0 Empire 8 victory over host Alfred University. The Hawks sweep both conference games on the weekend without conceding a goal. 'Wick, which stays atop the E8 standings with the win, has now shutout its last four Empire 8 opponents.

The win moves the Hawks' overall record to 9-4. They are 4-1 in the conference. Alfred falls to 4-6-3 overall and 1-1-2 in the E8.

Hartwick controlled play throughout, out-shooting AU 11-2. In the Hawks' last four conference games, they have surrendered only 11 shots in 360 minutes of play.

Rachel Weir (New Milford, CT/New Milford) would register the game-winner for the Hawks. It marks her team-leading sixth tally of the season. The play was set up by Sierra Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus) who picked up her league-best seventh assist of the year.

In the final 10 minutes of the game, the Saxons were able to get deep into Hartwick territory on a few occasions but never produced any real chances to even the score.

Weir registered two of the Hawks' six shots on target on the day. Madison Miller (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta), Rachel Pine (Hoosick Falls, NY/Hoosick Falls), Ashley Connolly (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City), and Courtney Velho (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) each recorded one.

Cassandra Robataille (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) pitched her fourth shutout in five games making one save for 'Wick. Alfred keeper Sammy Jo Shanahan stopped five Hartwick shots.

The Hawks will next host St. John Fisher on Saturday, October 14. Kickoff is 2:30 p.m. from Elmore Field.
