KEUKA PARK, NY – In its first match of the 2017 season, Hartwick volleyball swept host Keuka, 3-0, on Saturday afternoon at The Keuka Tournament. Inside of the JMW Center, junior
Paige Bailey (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) led the team with 11 kills to help the Hawks to a 1-0 record while Keuka starts 0-1 on the year.
Bailey's 11 kills was a new career-high. She also added a block and four digs to her stat line in the opener.
Both teams remained in striking distance of one another through the first two sets. It would take a momentous Hartwick team to take both as the Hawks closed out the first set winning the final six points, 25-15, and taking six of the last seven points to conclude the second set, 27-25.
In the final set, 'Wick went on an 8-0 run midway through to go up ten points, 14-4. Keuka tried to combat the streaking Hawks but Hartwick proved too much as they completed the sweep, 25-14.
Ashley Werner (Saugerties, NY/Saugerties) (14 digs) and
Rachel Griffing (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) (8 digs) led the Hawks on the defensive end.
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) chipped in seven digs and she
registered 24 assists while
Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) earned three aces.
Hartwick will wrap up its final two matches of the Tournament against D'Youville and Hilbert Saturday. D'Youville will get its chance at the Hawks at 11 a.m. while Hilbert challenges 'Wick at 1 p.m.
