Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Downed by St. Lawrence, 3-0

CANTON, NY – Host St. Lawrence used two goals 1:34 apart in the second half to pull away for a 3-0 shutout victory over Hartwick on Friday evening at Sandy MacAllastar Field in Canton, NY. The Hawks, who entered the game as the 10th ranked team in the latest East Region poll, slip to 4-2 overall on the season. The Saints up their season mark to 3-2.

St. Lawrence opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Emily Wade one-touched the ball into the Hartwick net following a Hannah Merriam corner kick and the Saints had a 1-0 lead.

With just over eight minutes to play in the half, the Hawks nearly drew even. Junior defender Madison Miller's (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta) effort struck the crossbar but stayed out and the Hawks settled for a one-goal deficit at the break.

Eighteen minutes into the second half, the Saints extended their advantage. At the corner of the Hartwick box, Merriam danced with the ball with a Hawk defender on her. She then unleashed a long shot that went through the hands of Hartwick keeper Celeste Trevellini (Bayside, NY/World Journalism Prep) and in for a 2-0 lead.

A minute and a half later, Kira Murphy played a ball in the midfield ahead for Katie Clemmer, who was sprung on a breakaway. Clemmer tucked her shot low to Trevellini's right to close out the day's scoring.

Hartwick had a pair of shots from Casey Boucher (Northbridge, MA/Northbridge) and Courtney Velho (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) go wide of the Saint goal in the final eleven minutes but it would be all the Hawks could muster.

The Saints held an 18-8 edge in shots for the match, including a 10-3 edge in the second half. They took all four corners on the day.

Cassandra Robataille (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) started the game in goal for 'Wick. She made two saves in the opening 45 minutes. Trevellini stopped five St. Lawrence shots in the second half. Samantha Allen made three stops in the Saints' goal.

Hartwick next plays on Tuesday September 19 at Skidmore. The Hawks and Thoroughbreds kickoff at 7 p.m.
