ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick volleyball got another chance at Lycoming College at avenging an earlier season loss. After dropping the first two sets to open action at the 2017 Hartwick Tournament, the Hawks rallied for a third set victory. Unfortunately, the Warriors would capture the fourth set for the 3-1 win to commence action on Friday afternoon at Lambros Arena. The loss places the Hawks at 4-6 and the Warriors move to 7-2 on the year.
Lycoming took the first two sets by the respective scores of 25-20 and 25-23. HC claimed the third set, 29-27. The Warriors topped the Hawks in the final set, 25-9.
Rosa Maun's (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) 12 kills, just three short of her career-best, matched a game-high and led the Hawks on the afternoon. Maun also added two solo blocks and three digs on the defensive end.
Erin Russell (Wantagh, NY/Seaford) and
Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) mirrored six kills while registered 10 and 7 digs, respectively.
Katie Boak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) tied for a game-high 22 digs while
Ashley Werner (15),
Paige Bailey (11) and Russell (10) also contributed in double-figures.
The action continues at Lambros with two matches featuring 'Wick. The Hawks face Plattsburgh State at 5 p.m. followed by a contest with Penn State Abington at 7 p.m.
