ONEONTA, NY – At Lambros Arena, Hartwick volleyball split its concluding matches to wrap up play at the 2017 Hartwick Tournament. After falling to Plattsburgh State by a 3-2 final, the Hawks came back and handled Penn State Abington 3-1 for a 5-7 season clip. The host finished fourth in the weekend's standings.
Baldwin Wallace finished as the victors of the Tournament going 4-0. Lycoming and Plattsburgh ended second both going 2-1. 'Wick found itself in a four-way tie with Oneonta, Nazareth and King's, all of which earned a 1-2 record while Penn State Abington placed eighth going 0-2.
Against the Cardinals, Hartwick alternated wins claiming the first (25-20) and third set (26-20). Plattsburgh took the second (25-19) and after earning a fourth-set victory (25-22) forced the deciding set. The foe would go on to claim the tiebreaker, 15-12.
Katie Boak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) led with 26 digs while
Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) added 18 kills, both game-highs in their respective categories.
Versus the Nittany Lions, the Hawks took back-to-back sets to start, 25-17 and 25-11, respectively. Penn State Abington claimed a come-from-behind third set victory, 25-22, before falling in the fourth, 25-8.
Rosa Maun (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) landed a game-high 13 kills.
Paige Bailey (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) collected four aces while
Ashley Smatko (Fort Edward, NY/South Glens Falls) contributed 12 digs, just three short of her career tally.
A four-game league stretch awaits the Hawks who travel to Utica, Wednesday, September 7 for a 7 p.m. serve.
