ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick women's soccer's high-octane offense was on full display in a 4-0 shutout of Keuka to close out the Erinn K. Brozman Cup, Saturday afternoon at Elmore Field. Four Hawks tallied as 'Wick advances to 2-0 on the budding season. The Wolves fall to 1-1 on the year. The cup victory is the Hawks' fourth in a row dating back to 2014.
Out of the gate, Hartwick turned on the pressure and rattled off five shots within the first 12 minutes while disallowing any Keuka offense. In the 17
th minute, 'Wick finally connected.
Jacqueline Smith (Monroe, NY/Monroe Woodbury), the recipient of a cross, sailed the ball to
Ashley Connolly (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) who headed the ball in the goal's bottom left corner to put the Hawks on the board first, 1-0.
Momentous, 'Wick continued to disrupt the Keuka defense firing off six more shots including a tally at 36:22.
Courtney Velho (Derry, NH/Pinkerton Academy) used her body to connect on a corner served by
Sierra Bentley (Worcester, NY/Schenevus). Velho won in traffic, knocking the ball in as it eked past Keuka's keeper for the 2-0 score, marking the last scoring play in the first half.
Following the intermission, the Wolves got right into Hartwick territory as Jessie Hammers fired her team's only attempt wide. The Hawks quickly regrouped and turned the pressure back on.
In the 50
th minute,
Allie Ricci (Millstone, NJ/Saint John Vianney) caught possession of a through ball as she casted an unlucky shot hitting the right post. She quickly recovered, locking in on her rebound and firing off a shot beating a defender and keeper for the three-goal advantage.
Just nine minutes behind the final buzzer,
Hayley Marte (Sloatsburg, NY/Suffern) zipped a cross right on the mark to a cutting
Brooke Wojciechowski (West Bridgewater, MA/West Bridgewater). Wojciechowski finished the play and rounded out scoring on Elmore.
Cassandra Robataille (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) and
Celeste Trevellini (Bayside, NY/World Journalism Prep School) split time in goal. Robataille was credited with the victory.
'Wick takes to Elmore midweek on Wednesday, September 6 when it hosts Wells College. Kick-off is slated for 7 p.m.
