ONEONTA, NY – In the 44
th all-time meeting between Hartwick volleyball and local rival, Oneonta, the Hawks fell 3-1 on Wednesday evening at Lambros Arena. The loss levels the Hawks' season record, 2-2, while the Red Dragons move up to 3-2 on the year.
After falling in the first set, 25-18, Hartwick took the second set, 25-23. Oneonta battled back for a third set victory, 25-21, and would take the match after securing a 25-19 fourth set victory.
Newcomers,
Katie Boak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) (21) and
Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) (13) led the Hawks in digs with Boak's tally being a match-high.
Kaitlyn Ludder (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park),
Rosa Maun (Redstone, CO/Roaring Fork) and
Erin Formosa (Waterford, NY/Waterford) each added a block to Hartwick's defense.
Erin Russell's (Wantagh, NY/Seaford) 20 assists were in the forefront for 'Wick in part to
Paige Bailey (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) (8) and Sorriento (5) connecting for kills.
The Hawks will travel to Williamsport, PA for the Lycoming Warrior Tip-Off Classic hosted by Lycoming College. In the two-day event beginning Friday, September 8, 'Wick will face four opponents including the host, Clarks Summit University, Nazareth, and D'Youville for a second time this season. The Hawks will face Lycoming first at 4 p.m.
