Venue: Saratoga Springs, NY – Williamson Sports Center

Recap: Hartwick won the fifth and deciding set 15-11 to take down host Skidmore College by a count of 3-2 Thursday in a marathon match that nearly eclipsed the two and a half hour mark. The Hawks would win the opening two sets, 26-24 and 25-22 to grab the advantage. The hosts returned the favor taking sets three and four, 25-14 and 25-12, respectively. After trailing 1-0 in the fifth set, Hartwick got the next five points and led the rest of the way. The Hawks led by as many as five, 13-8, but Skidmore got the next three to pull within two, 13-11. After a timeout, Kiera Walsh's (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) kill pushed the Thoroughbreds to the brink and Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) closed it out with her match-high 22nd kill of the night. Sorriento would commit only four errors on 57 attacks for a percentage of .316. She would add 12 digs for a double-double. Myla Dobson (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) collected 11 kills and hit .308 for the match. Dell Potts (Niverville, NY/Ichabod Crane) had 10 kills and Walsh and Toria Betelak (North Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) had six apiece. Walsh also had 21 digs. Katie Boak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had the team-high with 22 digs. Jamie Ready (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) recorded a double-double of 44 assists and 16 digs. Kayley Ericson (Franklin, CT/Norwich Free Academy) had 10 digs.

Notes: The Hawks defeat the Thoroughbreds for the first time in program history. They snapped a 23-match winless streak which occurred from 1995-2011. Tonight marked the sixth 5-set match for the Hawks this season and second in a row. Hartwick is 4-2 in those matches.

Up Next: The Hawks are off until Saturday, October 20 when they wrap up the Empire 8 regular season at Utica. The Hawks oppose the host Pioneers at 11 a.m. and play Alfred at 1:30 p.m.
