Recap: Hartwick survived a five-setter to open the day against host Utica but fell in four sets to Alfred in its second match on Saturday at Utica College. The loss to Alfred knocks the Hawks from playoff contention. Against the Pioneers, the Hawks dropped the opening set 25-23 but came back in the second set 25-20 to even the match at one. The Hawks gained the upper hand as they took the third set 25-20 but Utica responded in the fourth 25-21 to force a fifth and deciding set. The Hawks would out-score the Pioneers by a count of 15-9 to earn the victory in the fifth.
Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) paced the offense with 24 kills in the match.
Myla Dobson (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) added 15 kills.
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) delivered 55 assists which ranks 5
th in program history for assists in a match.
Kiera Walsh (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) had the team-high in digs with 22.
Katie Boak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had 19, Reidy added 14 for a double-double, and
Kaitlyn Ludder (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) chipped in with 11. In their second match, the Hawks took control early as they took set number one, 25-20. The Saxons responded, however, as they edged Hartwick 25-23 in the second. AU took the lead after winning set three, 25-19, and they closed out the match 25-20 in the fourth. Sorriento and Dobson led Hartwick with 14 kills apiece.
Celia Gagnon (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane) contributed eight. Walsh and Boak had 17 and 16 digs, respectively. Reidy dished out another 38 assists and she missed another double-double by one dig, finishing with nine.
