Kreppein Double Leads Hawks Past Houghton, 2-0

Final Score: Hartwick 2, Houghton 0

Venue: Oneonta, NY – Elmore Field

Records: Hartwick (8-5-1, 4-2 E8); Houghton (5-4-2, 0-4-1 E8)

Recap: Gabrielle Kreppein (Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) scored a goal in each half to lead Hartwick's women's soccer team to a 2-0 Empire 8 victory over Houghton Saturday on Elmore. Kreppein started the scoring in the 13th minute as she took advantage of a Houghton defender's slip, broke in alone with Houghton keeper Sadie Dunnett, and buried her shot low for a 1-0 lead. The Hawks were unlucky not to get a second later in the half. A cross from Shannon Lauko (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) into the box found Alexa DuBois (Hobart, NY/South Kortright) in front with 20 minutes left. DuBois' shot smacked the upright and the game remained 1-0. Eight and a half minutes later, Kiley Richardson (Flanders, NJ/Roxbury) served a ball in from the left side of the Highlander goal. It sailed over the head of Dunnett but ricocheted off the far post. Kreppein put it away in the 84th minute. Tanner Reed (Unadilla, NY/Unatego Central) played a ball into the mixer and Kreppein was first to it. Her first touch got her past the Houghton keeper and she tucked the ball into a open net for her sixth tally of the season. The Hawks closed the match with a 22-8 advantage in shots. Cassandra Robataille (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) made three saves in the opening 87 minutes for the Hawks. Hannah Erbe Smith (San Dieo, CA/Scripps Ranch) played the final three minutes in her first action this season to preserve the clean sheet.

Notes: With the win, Hartwick stays in second place in the Empire 8 standings and are a near lock for the playoffs. The Hawks improve to 4-2-1 against the Highlanders all-time. 'Wick is 4-0-1 in the last five meetings.

Up Next: Hartwick plays at city-rival SUNY Oneonta on Wednesday, October 17 beginning at 4 p.m.
