th minute held up as Hartwick defeated Elmira 1-0 on Tuesday at Campus Field in the Empire 8 opener for both teams. DuBois took a pass from
Gabrielle Kreppein (Glens Falls, NY/South Glens Falls) and she buried her low shot to the far corner for the 'Wick lead. The Hawks had multiple chances to add to the total but they couldn't find the net despite a 29-5 edge in shots. They would out-shoot the Soaring Eagles 16-3 in the first half and 13-2 in the second. Ten different Hawks registered at least one shot, led by Kreppein's seven.
Shannon Lauko (Baldwinsville, NY/C.W. Baker) had the final chance for either team with two minutes left as she walked in alone on goal. Her shot, however, was stuffed by EC goalie Gabe Carmona.
Cassandra Robataille (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) was only called upon to make one save in the game as she earned her fourth shutout of the season. Meghan Ray played the first half in goal for Elmira. She made five saves. Carmona stopped five shots in the second half.
Game Notes: Hartwick entered the game ranked eighth in the latest United Soccer Coaches East Regional Poll. The Hawks improve to 17-8-4 against the Soaring Eagles in 29 meetings.
Up Next: Hartwick hosts Stevens on Saturday, September 22 at noon. The game is a rematch of last season's Empire 8 Championship on Elmore Field which ended in a 0-0 draw. Elmira travels to Utica Saturday also with a noon start time.
