Recap: Hartwick's four-match winning streak came to an end Saturday as the Hawks were defeated by Houghton and St. John Fisher in Empire 8 matches. In 'Wick's opener, the Highlanders grabbed a 2-0 lead after taking the first two sets, 25-16 and 27-25. The Hawks won the third set 25-14 but the hosts responded in the fourth set, 25-20, to take the match.
Maria Sorriento (Troy, NY/Troy) and
Myla Dobson (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) combined for 19 kills in the contest. Sorriento led the Hawks with 10. Dobson added nine and she contributed five blocks.
Kaitlyn Ludder (West Sand Lake, NY/Averill Park) and
Celia Gagnon (Kinderhook, NY/Ichabod Crane) each chipped in six kills.
Katie Boak (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) tied for a match-high with 22 digs.
Kiera Walsh (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and
Jamie Reidy (Elmira, NY/Horseheads) added 10 digs apiece. Reidy also collected 28 assists. Against Fisher, the Hawks and Cardinals split the opening two sets. Fisher took the first, 25-13, and Hartwick won the second, 25-17. The Cardinals would roll in each of the final two sets to record the win. They won the third, 25-12, and the fourth by a count of 25-13. Sorriento recorded 10 kills again. Walsh had seven to go along with 13 digs. Boak registered another 17 digs, which was a team-high. Reidy achieved another double-double with 17 assists and 13 digs.
