Cacciola’s Two-Goal Night Lifts Hawks Over Soaring Eagles

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks picked up a big Empire 8 victory on Wednesday night thanks to a two-goal night from Gianna Cacciola (Wading River, N.Y.).

THE BASICS

  • Final Score:  Hartwick 2, Elmira 0
  • Location:  Elmira, N.Y.
  • Records:  Hartwick (2-6-3, 2-1-2 Empire 8), Elmira (5-7-1, 0-4-1 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The Hawks put a handful of runs early, but it wasn't until the 38th minute when Madi McGuire (Goshen, N.Y.) dropped a pass to the feet of Gianna Cacciola (Wading River, N.Y.) who chipped the ball past the Elmira goalie and into the left corner for the 1-0 lead.
  • The goal was Cacciola's second of the season.
  • Hartwick doubled their shot attempts in the second half but the Elmira keeper stepped up to deny the home squad's attack.
  • The Hawks' efforts would eventually payoff in the 87th minute as Nicole Casab (Utica, N.Y.) broke up an Elmira pass.  The senior sent a perfect ball to a streaking Cacciola who broke free for a 1v1 attempt with Elmira's goalie.
  • Cacciola ripped a shot to the left post to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead.
  • Casab picked up the assist.
  • That was all the Hawks would need as they wrapped up the 2-0 shutout win.
