ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Hawks returned to Empire 8 play on Friday night and came away with a three-set win over the visiting Alfred University Saxons.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Hawks took an early lead in the first set behind the serve of Braelyn Hornick (Candor, N.Y.), forcing a Saxons timeout.
- However, after the pause in play, Alfred came back to keep the set tight.
- Ultimately the Hawks would pull away for the 25-18 win.
- The second set was nearly all Hawks with a 25-13 win.
- While Hartwick was in control all of the third set, Alfred forced them to grind out points, but a big kill from Shelby Swartz (Candor, N.Y.) and a solo block from Niah Reeves (Binghamton, N.Y.) gave the Hawks the push they needed to earn the 25-19 win.
- Colette Maloney (Williston Park, N.Y.) finished the night with 12 kills, while Hornick ended the night with 35 assists.
