Volleyball Opens Final E8 Weekend with 3-1 Win at Keuka

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Hawks came back after dropping the first set to defeat the Keuka College Wolves 3-1 in Friday night Empire 8 action.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • Hartwick fell behind early on the road on Friday night, trailing by as much as seven points in the first set.
  • The Hawks made a push at the end, but ultimately dropped the first set 20-25.
  • The serving of Sarah Petz (Webster, N.Y.) was a game-changer in the second set as the senior libero took the score from 4-4 to 11-4 in favor of the Hawks.
  • Hartwick did not look back from there, earning the 25-15 win in set two.
  • The Hawks closed out the match by winning the third and fourth sets by identical scores of 25-19.
  • Hartwick played outstanding defense over the four sets, amassing 100 digs. 
  • Colette Maloney (Williston Park, N.Y.) got it done offensively and defensively, posting 12 kills and 28 digs.
  • Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii) also pulled out the double-double, leading the team with 13 kills while picking up 10 digs.  The sophomore also contributed a team-high six blocks.
  • The Hawks also counted on their serves to put up points, and their effort paid off as Petz, Kaileigh Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.), and Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.) each tallied 3 aces.
