WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • The host Cardinals posted touchdowns on their first two drives, putting the Hawks on their heels early.
  • Down 14-0 with 30 seconds left in the 1st quarter, Hartwick put together a 45-yard drive that resulted in a Nick Andrade (Shelton, Conn.) 45-yard field goal to get the Hawks on the board.
  • St. John Fisher came right back with a 77-yard drive for a touchdown.
  • However, the Hawks came right back, putting together a 91-yard drive that was capped off by an 11-yard receiving touchdown from Kyle Szokoli (Greenlawn, N.Y.) to Nate Rath (Newport, N.Y.) to make it a two-possession game at 21-10.
  • The Cardinals turned the tide right back in their favor, scoring their fourth touchdown in as many possessions to open the game.
  • Down 28-10, the Hawks received the ball with 51 seconds left on the clock, but time would run out on their drive.
  • After deferring to the second half, Fisher received the 2nd half kickoff.  Their opening drive of the half wouldn't last long as Nelon Priest (Schenectady, N.Y.) would pick off the Cardinals pass.
  • Hartwick capitalized on the turnover, with another Andrade field goal.
  • Fisher continued to respond to every Hartwick score, putting another drive that ended in a Cardinals touchdown, making the score 35-13.
  • Despite the setback, the Hawks came right back with a late 3rd quarter push for another touchdown.  Szokoli connected with Justin Lobasso (Honesdale, Pa.) for a 6-yard completion.
  • The Cardinals and Hawks each traded three-and-outs, to wrap up the 3rd quarter and into the first part of the 4th.
  • Unfortunately for the Hawks, the Cardinals found the endzone on a 4-play 63-yard drive to extend their lead to 42-20.
  • Just as Hartwick's defense came up big early in the 3rd quarter, St. John Fisher's defense forced a safety on the ensuing Hawks' drive to further extend their lead.
  • The Hawks made one last push with just under two minutes left in the game.  Rath once again picked up the receiving touchdown from Szokoli.
  • Hartwick attempted the two-point conversion, but the pass attempt failed and the 44-26 score in favor of St. John Fisher would stand.
  • Szokoli finished the day throwing for 345 yards for three touchdowns.
  • Rath was the beneficiary of two of those touchdowns as well as 118 of those yards.
  • Naquan Bradshaw (Syracuse, N.Y.) also finished the day with over 100-yards receiving with 148 and a long of 67.
  • Defensively, Jake Ely (Fulton, N.Y.) posted three solo tackles and five assisted tackles.  Two of his solo tackles went for a total loss of seven yards.
