Women’s Soccer Ends Regular Season with 1-0 Loss at Utica; Attention Turns to E8 Playoffs

UTICA, N.Y. – The Hartwick Hawks Women's Soccer team, who already secured an Empire 8 playoff berth, headed to Utica on Saturday afternoon to wrap up their regular season.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks and Pioneers battled throughout the first 45 minutes of play with neither team able to find the back of the net.
  • Hartwick got four shots off in the 1st half, putting one on net, while Utica got off nine shots and put 4 on net.
  • The 2nd half saw the two squads match each other shot-for-shot, but it was the Pioneers who were able to break the scoreless deadlock in the 70th minute.
  • The Hawks were unable to find the equalizer and the 1-0 advantage to Utica would stand.
  • Offensively, Hannah Bochniak (Barneveld, N.Y.) and Grace Byrne (Lynbrook, N.Y.) put shots on net for Hartwick.
  • Sara Staup (Woodinville, Wash.), despite the one blemish, recorded six saves on the afternoon.
  • As a result of this outcome, Utica earns the #4 seed in the Empire 8 tournament, while Hartwick becomes the #5 seed.

The Hawks will now turn their attention to the Empire 8 playoff first round contest where they will head back to Utica on Tuesday, November 1.
