WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick matched the top-seeded Cardinals on their home court through the first half of the opening set until the hosts went on to pick up point runs of five and six respectively to jump out to a 17-6 advantage.
  • The Hawks were unable to overcome the early deficit and dropped the first set 11-25.
  • The Hawks remained within striking distance throughout the majority of the second set, but a late run by the Cardinals gave them the 25-18 win.
  • Hartwick rallied back in the third set, coming back from five points down to push the set past the 25-point mark with the Hawks ultimately taking the set 28-26.
  • The visitors carried that momentum into the fourth set, holding a 13-11 lead midway through.
  • The two-point lead forced the Cardinals to take a timeout to regroup.
  • However, St. John Fisher would come out of that break with a run of their own to take a two-point lead, forcing the Hawks into a timeout of their own.
  • Unfortunately, the Cardinals kept pushing points down the stretch to take the 25-18 set win, and 3-1 match victory.
  • Kaileigh Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) posted 12 kills and 14 digs.
  • Colette Maloney (Williston Park, N.Y.) collected 10 kills to go along with 13 digs.
  • Three other Hawks picked up double-digit dig totals.  Shaelyn Thornton (Scarborough, Me.) ended the afternoon with a team-high 17 digs, while Sarah Petz (Webster, N.Y.) and Braelyn Hornick (Candor, N.Y.) finished with 13 and 11 respectively.

The Hawks wrap up their season with two program milestones:  reaching the Empire 8 Championship and posting their first 20-win season.
