ROCHESTER, NY – The Empire 8 announced its weekly award winners this afternoon, and Hartwick's Maggie Kirby and Michael Schultz were named the Women's Basketball and Men's Swimming Athletes of the Week.  This is Kirby's second weekly honor this season and Schultz's fifth.
 
Maggie Kirby had a solid week, helping the Hawks to secure the 2^nd seed in the upcoming Empire 8 tournament.  The Hawks went 2-0 this week, defeating Keuka 75-43 and Elmira 71-46.  Maggie averaged 15.5 points per game and had 7 steals, 4 of which came against Elmira which was a season high.  She pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out an assist over the course of her 67 minutes played.  Maggie improved her season scoring average to 13.6 and sits just 22 points shy of 1,000 for her career.
 
Hartwick will travel to the top seeded St. John Fisher for the semifinal matchup on Friday against Nazareth College.  The tournament's semifinals and finals are played at the top seed and Hartwick's game tips at 7:30pm.
 
After being named the Empire 8 swimmer of the meet this past weekend at the conference championships, Michael Schultz was named the swimmer of the week for his 5^th time this season.  Schultz had a strong all-around performance over the course of the 4 day championship, finishing 1^st in the 200 fly, 2^nd in both the 400 free relay and 200 IM, 3^rd in the 100 fly and 400 medley relay, and 4^th in the 200 medley relay and 800 free relay.
