ROCHESTER, NY - The Empire 8 conference announced the 2022 Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Teams this afternoon and 6 Hartwick athletes found themselves selected by the conference's 7 coaches. Hartwick's
Kristen Vaccarelli was selected to the first team,
Emily Madigan,
Ellie Masterpole,
Claudia Pollaro and
Kelsey Mahoney were each selected to the second team, and
Emily Schaub was named to the third team.
Kennedy Humphrey was named to the Sportswoman of the Year team.
Kristen Vaccarelli had a huge year for the Hawks as a freshman, leading the team in goals (38), points (45), shots (70), shots on goal (59), free position goals (10), ground balls (39), and draw controls (71). At the conference level, she finished second overall in goals per game with 2.92, third in ground balls per game with 3.00, and third in draw controls per game with 5.46. The first year standout had her best game of the season against Sage College in a "win and in" match in the season finale. She connected on all 7 of her shots on goal to help Hartwick seal the win and advance to the E8 semifinals.
Emily Madigan, another first year student, had an excellent campaign after scoring 14 goals and assisting on 3 others for a total of 17 points. Emily scooped up 24 ground balls and won 32 draw controls while starting in 11 of the team's 13 games this season. Emily failed to register a point in just 3 games this season and was second on the team with those 32 draw controls and 10th in the conference at 2.46 draw controls per game.
Ellie Masterpole started in all 12 games she played and registered 22 goals on 40 shots on goal this season. She added 3 assists to bring her point total to 25. Ellie had 29 ground balls and 17 draw controls, to go along with 7 caused turnovers in her second season with the Hawks. Her best game of the season came against Alfred where she scored a career high 6 goals in the 20-11 victory at home. She finished 8th in the E8 with 2.42 ground balls per game.
Claudia Pollaro finds herself on the All-Conference second team for the second consecutive year, after another excellent season in the books. Claudia scored 15 goals and added 4 assists on the 21 shots on goal. She was 3rd on the team with 28 draw controls and recorded 18 ground balls and 8 caused turnovers. Pollaro was very accurate with her shots, as she led the team with a .875 shot on goal percentage (min 20 SOG) for the year.
Kelsey Mahoney, one of two defenders who made the All-conference team, led the Hawks with 18 caused turnovers and was second with 35 ground balls on the year. She started all 13 games for the Hawks as a junior. Kelsey was 7th in the conference in ground balls per game (2.69).
Emily Schaub, a senior, was named to the third team after a strong year in which she was 2nd on the team in goals (24) and 3rd in points (30). Emily started all 13 games of the year and registered at least 1 goal in 10 of those games, with her strongest line coming against Alfred when she record 5 goals and 2 assists for 7 points. In addition to the goals scored, she scooped 20 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers.
Kennedy Humphrey was selected to the Sportswoman of the Year team for the Hawks. One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2022 Empire 8 Women's Lacrosse Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
