Tennis Opens Season with 9-0 Victory over Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Hartwick Hawks women's tennis team picked up their first win of the 2022 season in convincing fashion, defeating Oneonta State 9-0.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • Just one year after the Hawks were handed a 9-0 loss by the Red Dragons, Hartwick returned the favor this year, picking up their own sweep.
  • Damita Bollers (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jade Killikelly (Jamaica, N.Y.) put the Hawks on the board first, winning their first doubles match in convincing fashion 8-1.
  • The third doubles pair of Maddi Morrison (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Maggie Van Valkenburgh (Highland, N.Y.) won their match 8-4 to give the Hawks a 2-0 match lead.
  • Phoebe Olson (Jamestown, N. Dak.) and Ryann Ashby (Malta, N.Y.) completed the doubles sweep at second doubles by a score of 8-5.
  • Hartwick just needed to take two of the five singles matches to take the dual match victory.
  • Colleen Marsh (Marcellus, N.Y.) picked up the first win at 5th singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3 to give the Hawks a 4-0 advantage.
  • Olson secured the match victory defeating her opponent at 2nd singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
  • Wins at 6th singles by Lily Vanuga (Springville, N.Y.), 3rd singles by Killikelly, 4th singles by Ashby, and 1st singles by Bollers completed the sweep.
