Volleyball Grinds Out E8 Opener, Top Medaille 3-1

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Hartwick opened Empire 8 play on Friday night with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Medaille Mavericks

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
 
  • The Hawks were dominant early, hitting over .500 in the first two set wins.
  • Hartwick picked up 19 kills in the third set, while the Mavericks put away 17.
  • Unfortunately, the Hawks committed two more attack errors than Medaille in the 3rd which proved to be the difference in that set.
  • Hartwick and Medaille traded points once again in the fourth set, but would ultimately grind out a 25-23 point win to take the match victory 3-1.
  • Kaileigh Brandow (Manorville, N.Y.) paced a dominant offensive attack, picking up 19 of the team's 67 kills.
  • Colette Maloney (Williston Park, N.Y.) was close behind putting away 17 kills.  The senior also led the Hawks in digs with 15.
  • Staecia Silofau (Kapolei, Hawaii) added 15 kills to the attack.
  • Braelyn Hornick (Candor, N.Y.) picked up 56 assists across the four sets.
  • Hartwick was also nearly perfect on the night with their serve receive, only allowing the Mavericks to pick up one ace.

The Hawks have a quick turnaround as they host the Houghton University Highlanders at 2 PM tomorrow in another Empire 8 contest.
