ALFRED, N.Y. – The Hartwick Hawks Men's Swimming and Diving team dropped a close 156-144 loss at their Empire 8 dual meet at Alfred University on Saturday afternoon.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Nic Canney (Chandler, Ariz.), Brady Haraden (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), and Lane Rawls (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) got things rolling for the Hawks, sweeping the top three spots in the 1000-yard freestyle.
- Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, Ariz.) picked up nine points for Hartwick, taking first in the men's 200-yard free.
- However, Alfred battled back, taking the first three spots in the 100-yard back and the first two spots in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- The Hawks got some points back as Mikey Schultz (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Canney took the first and third spots in the 200-yard butterfly.
- Hartwick had a strong showing in both the men's 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Jack Armstrong (Windham, N.H.) finished first in both events, while Peyton Humphries (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) and Keith Ruiz (San Antonio, Tex.) finished third and fourth respectively in both events.
- Reid Sinkinson (Telford, Pa.) picked up nine points by finishing first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.80.
- The Saxons battled back against the Hawks again, taking the first three spots in the 200-yard backstroke and the first two spots in the 200-yard breaststroke.
- Canney and Tupponce answered back going one-two in the 500-yard free, while Schultz added nine points by taking first in the 100-yard butterfly.
- Schultz followed up that performance with a win in the 200-yard individual medley.
- Unfortunately a first and third place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay for Alfred locked up the Empire 8 win.

The Hawks return to Moyer Pool for their final home meet of the season on Saturday, January 21 against the Pioneers from Alfred State at 1 PM.
