UTICA, N.Y. – The Hawks picked up a key Empire 8 victory on Friday night, pulling away down the stretch against the Utica University Pioneers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Hartwick battled back from seven down half way through the first quarter to knot the score at 14-14 at the conclusion of the first 10 minutes of play.
- The Hawks and the Pioneers traded leads throughout the early stages of the second quarter.
- A layup by Meghan Perry (Otego, N.Y.) and a jumper from Bree Fargnoli (Binghamton, N.Y.) down the stretch of the quarter gave Hartwick a 27-24 advantage heading into halftime.
- The visiting Hawks withstood a run by the Pioneers early in the third, but ultimately took a seven-point lead into the final quarter.
- Hartwick extended their lead to nine early in the fourth, but Utica worked back to cut it to six with 3:41 remaining in the contest.
- However, Hartwick was clutch down the stretch starting with a big three-pointer from Angelina Maselli (Burlington, Conn.) with 1:26 on the clock to get the lead to 10 points.
- The Pioneers responded with a basket of their own on their subsequent possession, but Sareena DiCerbo (Schenectady, N.Y.) got the lead back to 10 with a post-up layup with 45 seconds remaining.
- From there, the Hawks iced the game from the line to ultimately claim the 60-47 win.
- Hartwick picked up 18 points from their bench, 16 of which came from Meghan Perry and Alexis Mark (Patterson, N.Y.).
- Fargnoli led all Hawk scorers with 11.
- Three Hawks finished with double-digit rebounds, with Morgan Perry (Otego, N.Y.) leading the way with 11, while Isabella Astorino (Warwick, N.Y.) and DiCerbo each pulled down 10 boards.
