NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The Hartwick Hawks Men's Swimming and Diving team edged out the host New Paltz Hawks 133-129 on Saturday afternoon in their final regular season meet.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Hawks found themselves behind early with a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
- However, Hartwick bounced back in the 1650-yard freestyle as Nic Canney (Chandler, Ariz.) and Brady Haraden (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) picked up second and third place finishes respectively.
- Dawson Tupponce (Phoenix, Ariz.) gave Hartwick a big boost, picking up nine points with a first-place finish in the 200-yard free.
- Justin Diamond (Morrisville, Vt.) kept Hartwick close with a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke.
- Sebastian Knowles (Plano, Tex.) and Evan Nezat (Jacksonville, N.C.) kept things rolling with a one-two finish in the 100-yard breaststroke.
- Mikey Schultz (Binghamton, N.Y.) and Tupponce also picked up first and second place finishes respectively in the 200-yard butterfly.
- The Hawks collected a total of 14 points in the 50-yard free as Reid Sinkinson (Telford, Pa.) finished first, defeating his opponent by over a second. Nezat and Daryl Kyabayinze (Kanpala, Uganda) finished third and fourth in the event.
- Sinkinson followed up that performance with another first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle.
- Tupponce picked up his second first-place finish of the afternoon with a three-second win in the 500-yard free.
- Schultz added 18 points, finishing first in both the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley.
- However, it was Hartwick's second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay that secured the narrow victory, which was swam by Sinkinson, Knowles, Nezat, and Tupponce.

The Hawks will now turn their attention to the Allegheny Empire Championships which will be held at Webster Schroeder High School in Webster, New York.The competition begins on Wednesday, February 15 and runs through Saturday, February 18.
