Hawks Tie Soaring Eagles In Road E8 Matchup

Elmira, N.Y. – The Hawks hit the road to face off against Elmira College for a big Empire 8 conference matchup.

THE BASICS

  • Final Score:  Hartwick 0  Elmira 0

  • Location:  Elmira, N.Y.

  • Records:  Hartwick (2-6-5, 0-2-4 Empire 8), Elmira (3-9-3, 0-5-2 Empire 8)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Hartwick kicked the game off against the Soaring Eagles, with early momentum sending the ball down field and earning multiple throw-ins. The Hawks spent the early minutes building up the attack with quick passes back and forth creating space. Grace Byrne(Lynbrook, N.Y.) posted the first shot on goal with a strong shot just outside the box that was saved but was something to build on for the team.

  • As the first half continued, the teams exchanged turns controlling the middle of the field and tried to form a dangerous chance for their respective squads but nothing would come of it.

  • The first half ended in a stalemate with neither team being able to control possession for a significant amount of time. Hartwick worked hard, defending the ball and passing the ball around but lacked the finishing touch.

  • Stella Rowley(Little Falls, N.Y.) and Jenna Mierek(Prospect, Conn.) made some crucial stops that halted the Elmira attack in their tracks before they could get downfield and put a shot on goal.

  • Hartwick posted six shots compared to the opposition's one, they also registered the only corner of the half as they looked to come into the second half with a new fire.

  • The second half got underway and while both teams created more forward progress, they made it difficult on each other to execute in the final third.

  • With time winding down, the Hawks gained momentum and began to look very dangerous with about five minutes left. Elmira was able to counter attack and generate two late shots with one shot coming with under a minute left but both attempts were stonewalled by Meghan Perry(Otego, N.Y.).

  • The Hawks finished the day outshooting their opponents, fifteen to five but the game ended in a scoreless tie.

UP NEXT FOR THE HAWKS
