WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
-
The Hawks hosted Alfred for their first Empire 8 match this season, Hartwick was determined from the starting whistle, playing with a high intensity and setting the tone.
-
Some good defense by the Hawks led to a counter attack that started the first opportunity for the squad but possession was lost and the ball was kicked back to the opponents goal keeper, Kwame Amissah Arthur (Federal Way, Wash.) did not give up on the play and caught the goalie making a lackadaisical mistake, jumping in front of the kick and deflecting it into the net for the first goal in the 11th minute.
-
Hartwick made sure not to give up on the gas pedal, playing with the same intensity both offensively and defensively, making several pushes into the opposing third while also stopping attacks in their own territory.
-
With the first half coming to a close and the Hawks up one, Jake Daly (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) received a ball in the opposing third where he would send a wonderful cross into the box to find Sean Burke (West Midlands, England) elevating amongst the crowd and heading the ball past the goalkeeper to go up two against their conference opponents.
-
The Hawks up two and the second half underway, the opposition struggled to form an attack and get anything going against the stern defense of Hartwick.
-
Dante Gesamondo (Lynnfield, Mass.) posted four saves on his way to back to back clean sheets as the Hawks would hold onto the two goal lead as the game came to a close and the squad notched its first conference win.
